Today we gave our 9 newest startup teams a platform to pitch to an invitation-only audience of South East Asia’s most active early-stage investors. The teams are seeking investment to build on the market traction they have established and scale up in home markets and abroad.

Every business pitching today has been through JFDI’s 100-day Accelerate program which invested S$25,000 cash and provided a package of intensive one on one mentoring valued at S$150,000, plus technical and other vendor perks worth more than S$1,000,000.

Hugh Mason, co-founder and CEO of JFDI.Asia, said: “Pitching ideas is one thing but what will impress investors today is the traction that these teams have achieved in a remarkably short time, in markets as diverse as Vietnam, India, Myanmar and of course Singapore. The energy everyone has put into the last 100 days has been incredible and while everyone recognizes that investment is the beginning of a new phase, not an end in itself, there will be a lot of celebration today!”

The teams up on stage were:

  • Wiindi, from Vietnam – the #1 shopping discovery app in Vietnam

  • FirstRide, from India – A marketplace for new cars helping consumers buy cars online & helping dealers increase their margins

  • Bakipa, from Australia, New Zealand and Singapore – A specialized marketplace for new and used children’s products

  • Strike, from India – A Mobile-First People Research Platform, for Email Power Users

  • Let’sCatchup, from India – offering Better job recruitment through college alumni networks

  • Taembe.com, from Vietnam and the USA – Making Mom’s Life Easier

  • Hijab2go, from Canada, Denmark and Malaysia – A mobile commerce application that helps Muslim women try on thousands of fashion products virtually before buying

Ruchin Chaudhary, Co-founder at Let’sCatchup, captured the mood of all the teams presenting: “Today, people will see the top of the iceberg for 6 minutes ! A lot of hard work is underneath it!”
